Between 1950 and 2005, Colorado had over 1,500,000 marriages – and over
773,000 divorces. During that time, Colorado averaged 96 marriages per day –
and 56 divorces. (Source: Colorado Vital Statistics 2005, Colorado
Department of Health and Environment, Health Statistics Section, 2006.)
Many psychologists assert that the second most stressful event in a person’s
life is divorce. The most stressful event is the death of a spouse or a
child. Interestingly, most lists of the top 10 most stressful life events
also include getting married and reconciling a marriage.
People who undergo divorce describe the experience similarly to the five
stages of grief. They often first experience denial, then anger, followed by
bargaining, depression and acceptance. The experience of
Mr. Ingram’s own divorce (and
remarriage) has provided him with human and legal perspectives, as well as
the desire to provide clients with a cost-effective and equitable divorce
experience.
