Between 1950 and 2005, Colorado had over 1,500,000 marriages – and over
773,000 divorces. During that time, Colorado averaged 96 marriages per day –
and 56 divorces. (Source: Colorado Vital Statistics 2005, Colorado
Department of Health and Environment, Health Statistics Section, 2006.)
Many psychologists assert that the second most stressful event in a person’s
life is divorce. This is especially true when children are involved. The
most stressful event is the death of a spouse or a child. Interestingly,
most lists of the top 10 most stressful life events also include getting
married and reconciling a marriage.
